GOOD PROSPECTS IN FIRST MATCH “ VERY CONSCIENTIOUS IN PRACTICE ” .(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, June 12. Although it took the New Ze£and women’s golf team a little time to set ti® down after their arrival in London by air. and for a time they found the difference in the atmosphere caused them to misjudge distances during practice games on courses near the city, all are reported to be fit and well for the first match of their tour against Wales at Prestatyn this af The°New Zealanders will play singles only against the Welsh women, and the team will be: Misses Zoe Hudsoni (captain), Margaret Hughes, Claire Smith, and Doreen Blundell. Miss Hughes, who has been In England for several months, has not unnaturally been showing the best foynr She won the St. George’s Cup a * We yb rld , g eJ®Z cently. Altogether, the New Zealanders have taken part in three open days. Miss Hudson coming third in two of them. Dr. Shirley Tonkin, the team s manager, says all the women have been very conscientious in practising and are keeping their fingers crossed for the first match. On June 13 they will watch a match between Canada and Wales, and on June 14 the Welsh, New Zealand and Canadian teams will visit Harlech to compete in foursomes competitions. Next week the New Zealanders will go to Porthcawl, and will practise for the British women's open championship, due to begin on June 22. RAKAIA GOLF CLUB. OPEN DAY TOURNAMENT.
