-ANNUAL MEETING OF MOTHER CHURCH The practical value of spiritual understanding in daily life was the keynote as more than 7500 Christian Scientists from throughout the world met for the annual meeting of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, last Tuesday. A special message from the Christian Science Board of Directors told the gathering that materialism not only was being challenged, but was yielding increasingly to the impact of spiritual enlightenment. Bearing witness to this were incidents of Christian Science healing read to the meeting, which included total recovery from a severe case of poliomyelitis, abdominal cancer, rheumatic fever, and rheumatic heart diagnosed as incurable, dislocated hips thought beyond recovery, and accident injuries pronounced fatal. Through prayerful living of pure Christianity, the directors said, “painless progress can be made by the individual and by humanity as a whole.” Named president of the Mother Church for’the coming year was Mrs Grace F. Cudworth, of Boston, a Christian Science practitioner active in the healing work of the denomination for almost 50 years. Her term of office is for one year. Expenditure of about 1,000,000 dollars for charitable purposes during the year was reported by Mr Roy Garrett Watson, the treasurer. He added that individual Christian Scientists voluntarily contributed more than 70,000 dollars for flood relief in Europe, dnd that the Mother Church received more than 1,000,000 dollars in gifts from members and friends. Officials announced that 34 new branches of the Mother Church wdre established during the year. They included branches in Casablanca, Morocco, and Apeldoom (Holland), and several in Germany. Christian Science lecturers toured many parts of the world, including Korea.
