NEW DEVICE FOR R.A.F.

RADAR GUNSIGHT (NZ. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June 10. Britain’s jet fighters are to have a new radar “eye’ T to help guide their guns on to enemy aeroplanes. The new device, one cubic foot in size, locks on to enemy aeroplanes in the sky ahead and feeds the range automatically to the pilot’s gun-sight. Experts believe it may revolutionise jet-fighting technique. It could give high-speed fighter pilots a chance to increase their kills three or four times, they say. A member of the Society of British Aircraft Constructors explained that the “eye” will cut out the pilot’s most difficult job in the last few vital seconds before the attack —feeding the range into his gun by hand. Two of Britain’s jet fighters, the sweptwing Swift and the Hunter, which are now being built fur the Royal Air Force, will be equipped with this latest aid.
