SALVAGE OF GOLD FROM NIAGARA
COMPLETION SAID TO BE NEAR (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 11.' The salvage of the Niagara’s gold is nearing completion, according to sources close to the team now operating over the wreck off the coast near Whangarei. Explosives are said to have blasted away the hampering structure near the bullion, room, so that a pocket of gold bars is within reach of the grab operated by the British salvage ship Foremost 17. The number of bars recovered is believed to be 15, valued about £77,000. This would leave 20 bars in the wreck. The bars recovered since the ship was at Auckland recently will soon be brought to Auckland for banking.
