Taft Resigns Position (Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June ft Senator Robert A. Taft today announced that he was suffering from a serious hip ailment. He resigned his position as Republican majority leader in the Senate for the remainder of this session or Congress. Senator Taft’s announcement caused a minor sensation among senators and his colleagues because of the key role he has been taking in the Eisenhower Administration. Senator Taft said doctors told him there was an impairment of the left hip bone that must be treated with X-rays and cortisone.
