S. G. JONES BEATS D. G. LENG-WARD (New Zealand Press Association) _ „ , NAPIER, June 1. S. Cr. Jones, of Hastings, convincingly won the North Island championship at Waiohiki today, beating D. G. Leng-Ward (Manawatu), five and four. Playing superbly, Jones was four up at the turn. appeared to have been affected by the gruelling match he played in a semi-final this morning with L. B. Johnston (Titirangi). The match ended on the twenty-second green, leaving Leng-Ward a break of only three-quarters of an hour before meeting Jones. Jones this morning beat B. M. Silk (Wanganui), 2 and 1.
