WINEMAKERS’ REQUEST TO GOVERNMENT
CHANGE IN LICENSING LAWS SOUGHT (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 1. Submissions from Auckland winemakers to the Minister of Justice (Mr T. C. Webb) for relaxation of the licensing laws to help their industry, had a “very favourable hearing.” This was reported to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Viticultural Association in Auckland by the president (Mr G. Mazuran).
“Wine is produced from our own resources without committing the country to any more than 2 per cent, of overseas exchange, and it deserves some measure of protection,” Mr Mazuran said. ... „ He urged members to maintain the quality of local wines so that the industry could become a major primary industry and help to earn vital overseas funds.”
