CANTERBURY BEATS OTAGO

TOURNEY AT DUNEDIN “The Press’’ Special Service DUNEDIN, June 1. Playing constructively, Canterbury beat Otago 2-0 in a representative men’s hockey tournament, at Logan Park, Dunedin, today. Neither team had a decided territorial advantage, but sound positional play and greater penetration gave Canterbury its success. For Canterbury, J. Reese was outstanding, scoring both goals Otago made many sorties to the Canterbury goal, but was unable to finish off any movement. Reece, J. Mann, and Bennett were the best Canterbury players.

(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, June 1 Better teamwork gave the Canterbury hockey representatives a win by 3 goals to 1 against Nelson, at Nelson today. M. Wallen scored twice and W. Speedy once for Canterbury. Nelson’s goal was scored by the captain, M. Allen.

WEST COAST BEATS CANTERBURY B

The West Coast hockey representatives beat Canterbury B by 3 goals to 0, at Greymouth yesterday. The game produced some keen play, although the wider experience of the West Coast team gave it an advantage. All three goals were scored for the West Coast by J. Kiddey, who did not play his usual sound game. R. Lynch, at inside left, played an enterprising game for the West Coast, as did G. Watson and W. Mountford. Outstanding players for Canterbury were Newburn, Tilley, and J. Morel.

The West Coast team for a match with Canterbury today has been announced as follows:—Brennan, W. Kennedy, N. Mayson, G. Watson, J. Kiddey, A. English, D. Maurice, R. Lynch, S. Hill, A. Boustridge. Reserves: E. Parsons, D. Brown.

Fifty-six teams were entered in the Canterbury annual six-a-side women’s hockey tournament, which was held at Hospital corner yesterday. The grounds were in good order, and the weather was fine but cold. There was only a small gathering of supporters. Results:—
