GOLDEN WEDDING

MR AND MRS GEORGE H. • WEAVER

Mr and Mrs George H. Weaver, of 41 Palmerston street. Greymouth, will celebrate their golden wedding tomorrow. They were married at Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, on June 3. 1903 by the late Ven. Archdeacon G. York. Mrs Weaver was Miss Daisy Euphemia (Effie) Hodgkinson, eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs A. Hodgkinson, of Greymouth, and formerly of Amberley, Canterbury.

Mr Weaver, who has been prominent in the building trade as a glazier, has spent most of his working days at the Greymouth Sash and Door Factory, operated by Stratford, Blair and Company, Ltd. In her younger days Mrs Weaver took an active interest in the work of the Anglican Church, and was one of the first Sunday school teachers in Blaketown. Mr Weaver was born on the site of the old homestead in Marsden road about 76 years ago and has never been from the province. Only an accident during training prevented him from sailing with the West Coast contingent to the South African War. Mrs Weaver came to the West Coast with her parents as a young girl. There are two members of the family, Mrs V. Fairhall, of Cobden, and Mr A. J. Weaver, of Addington. All the principals at the ceremony 50 years ago, apart from the minister, are alive, and will attend a reunion at the home of Mr and Mrs Weaver tomorrow. They include the three bridesmaids, the bride’s two sisters, Mrs Olive Haub, of Palmerston North, and Mrs Gwendoline (“Birdie”) Napper, of Dunedin, the bridegroom’s sister, Mrs Olive Phillips, of Westport, and the best man. Mr George Herring. Both Mr and Mrs Weaver enjoy good health and have already received many congratulatory messages from friends and relatives.
