The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours following the time of issue, is:— t Situation: a trough of low pressure is approaching the South Island from the west. Forecast: northerly to westerly winds, strong in exposed places: brief, scattered rain at first, but weather otherwise fair, with cool to moderate temperatures. Outlook: fair. WEST COAST The following is the forecast for the West Coast of the South Island:— Northerly to westerly winds; weather changeable and showery, with moderate temperatures. Outlook: showery. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a light north-east wind. At midnight the sky was cloudy, and there was a fresh wind from the north-east The temperature was 49 degrees. The barometer, at 29.741 n (1007.1 millibars), was falling unsteadily.
