ASSOCIATION CODE AUCKLAND WINS F.A. TROPHY

4-2 WIN AGAINST WELLINGTON CANTERBURY DRAWS WITH OTAGO (Neto Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 1. Auckland scored a well-deserved win over Wellington in the final of the Football Association!! Trophy tournament by 4 goals to 2 at the University oval today. Wellington faded in the second half under Auckland’s pressure. Auckland played a much better game than it played against Otago on Saturday, and its speed more than matched the integration and skill of the Wellington team. The Wellington forwards and half-backs lacked their earlier combination, and were forced into errors, especially towards the end of the game. The final was easily the best game of the Series, but was marred by frequent penalties for charging. Wellington players were put off balance by the penalties against them, and towards the end of the match showed a tendency to stand oft from their opposite numbers. Wellington played a short passing game, which Auckland preferred. K. Flett, at inside left for Auckland, played a well-judged game, his speed frequently taking him past R. Banham, at right back, and giving Auckland good scoring opportunities. P. Traynor, the hardest worker on the field, played a solid defensive and attacking game for Auckland. Both goalkeepers were again excellent, but A. O'Brien took the honours for Wellington. Many Wellington players who played well on Saturday gave poor performances. J. Newall, however, played soundly, though his opportunities were limited. The scorers for Auckland were D. Kendrick (2), J. Gommers, and R. King. For Wellington, J. Newall and W. Dawson scored. The referee was Mr T. Tointon, of Canterbury. Otago v. Canterbury

The match between the losing teams on Saturday, Otago and Canterbury, was a draw, 4-all. The game was very even, and the result was a fair indication of play. The game was more open than the final, and although the standard of play was not high the game was interesting. Flaws, emergency in the first match for Otago, played well enough in the second spell to earn a place in the South Island team. He made full use of all opportunities, and made at least one goal. H. Langley played well In goal for Canterbury. bringing off some excellent saves. J. Stephenson made several mistakes, and his play was not up to that of Saturday’s match. The scorers for Otago were I. Walsh, W. Williams, W. Berry, and V. Smith, of Canterbury, who mis-kicked. For Canterbury, T. Claxton scored two goals, and F. Bradley and K. OUey scored a goal each. The referee was Mr Williams, of Dunedin.
