ALLIED SUCCESS IN AIR WAR
( Rec. n p.m.) SEOUL, May 23. The sth Air Force reported today that American Sabre jet fighters destroyed 28 Russian-built MIG jets in North Korea during last week. Only one Sabre was lost in air battles during the week. Two other Sabres and an Australian Meteor were reported lost to other causes—presumably mechanical trouble. Six Allied planes were lost to ground fire—three Thunder jets, a 826 bomber, a United States Marine Corsair and a Mosquito spotter plane. Crew Taken Off Wrecked Freighter. —The British cruiser Newcastle yesterday completed the evacuation of the crew of the British merchantman. Lady Wolmer (1800 tons), aground off Cheju Island. The freighter is breaking up.—Tokyo, May 24. Queen Salote at Ballet—Queen Sa--lote, of Tonga, was in the Royal Box at Covent Garden last night. She saw Margot Fonteyn in “The Sleeping Beauty.”—London, May 22.
