Government Role In Trade Discussed

(Rec. 9 p.m.) VIENNA, May 23. Delegates at' the International Chamber of Commerce this week demanded an end to government interference in trade. They passed a resolution at their fourteenth annual conference saying that governments should generally confine their attention to providing the proper climate for private funds, skill and initiative to be able to do thte job properly. The congress urged the convertibility of currencies, with properly organised foreign exchange markets where traders can buy and sell their earnings in foreign currencies, as a policy for the immediate future and not as a distant goal. Mr Warren Lee Pierson, President of the United States Council of the I.C.C. said he had never been more optimistic about future American action to make imports easier. The working group on economic and financial policy passed resolutions recommending the abolition of consular invoices and visas. Mr Camille Gutt, a former Belgian Cabinet Minister, is the new persident of the LC.C.
