CORONATION BALL
POLICE SOCIAL CLUB’S PLANS
Part of the Coronation celebrations in Christchurch will be a ball arranged by the Police Social Club, to be neld in the Caledonian Hall on June 2. Those who will attend include the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane. M.P.), the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast), Commander J. N. Allan, officer commanding the Canterbury Division R.N.Z.N.V.R., Brigadier J. T. Burrows, officer commanding Southern Military District, and Group Captain B. S. Nichol, officer commanding the R.N.Z.A.F. Station. Wigram. The ball is being planned on a lavish scale, and the City Council reserves department, assisted by the Army, will be responsible for the decorations to be earned out in greenery, flowers, bunting and flags. Two senior Air Force n.c.o.’s are arranging the grand march. Illustrated programmes will also be featured as a memento of the occasion. At 10 p.m. the hall will be darkened except for a spotlight on a portrait of the Queen, and those present will sing the National Anthem. The Mayor will give a short address at 11 p.m. to coincide with the crowning ceremony in Westminster Abbey, and later a broadcast of the service will be heard over a loudspeaker system. I
