BRITISH WOOL TEXTILES

HEAVY INCREASE IN • DOLLAR EXPORTS

(Special Correspondent NJEJ»uL) LONDON, May 22 The outstanding feature of the latest returns of the wool textiles overseas trade is that in the first four months this year no less than 41 per cent, of British exports of woollen and worsted cloth have gone to the dollar markets of Canada and the United States, says the wool trade correspondent of the “Yorkshire Post.” The total of such exports was 31,600,000 square yards, of which 13,000.000 went to the North American Continent. The “Yorkshire Post” adds: "Heavy wool imports !a th* last four months are the largest for any comparable period at recent years. Wool cloth and carpet imports do not yet show much increase since the removal of the quota control, though carpet Imports last month were 13.008 square yards more than In March. “Wool tops exports in the last four months are the highest of any similar period of the last three years, and worsted yarn exports this year are closely comparable with those of the boom period of early 1951. Woollen and worsted cloth exports show a substantial improvement onlast year, thanks largely to increased sales to dollar market*.

There la still an easy tone about the white clover market with sellers predominating.
