WOMEN’S SECTION OF R.S.A.
ANNUAL MEETING AT KAIAPOI There was a very good attendance at the annual meeting of the women’s section of the Kaiapoi Returned Services’ Association. The president (Mrs S. J. Richards) presided and eight new members were elected. Items were contributed by Mesdames Candy and Fitzgerald. Flowers were presented to Mrs G. Hirst, who has resigned as secretary. The annual report said that an English boy had been sponsored again under the Save the Children Fund, and several parcels had been sent to hjs mother. Donations had been made to Heritage (£2 2s), the Pensioners’ Club (£2 2b), the R.S.A, king carnival (£10), the English flood appeal (£5), and the Kaiapoi Brass Band’s new instruments appeal fund £(13). Towards the repairs of the roof of the Returned Services' Association, £5O had been given and £27 had been transferred to the building account from the general account. Posies had been made for soldiers’ graves from flowers supplied by members In addition, said the report, members had helped with the sale of health stamps, and with the sale of poppies on Poppy Day. They had sent parcels and comforts to widows and disabled servicemen, and to Kaiapoi servicemen in Korea. Officers were elected as follows: patron, Mrs H. H. Blackwell; president, Mrs Richards; vice-presidents, Mrs A. S. Palmer and Mrs G. Hirst; secretary, Mrs R. Collister; treasurer, Miss M. Stark; committee, Mesdames J. Baker, Jun., Burnip, Crowe, Casserley, Ellis, Fitzgerald, McMullan, Seeker and Miss P. Pearce; sick visitors, Mesdames Griffiths, Greenwood and Todd; cards director, Mr? J. S. Baker and committee; auditor. Mr A. S. Palmer.
