MASS FOR NURSING PROFESSION
CELEBRATION BY BISHOP JOYCE Members of the medical profession, sisters from Lewisham Hospital, and uniformed nurses assembled at the 8 o’clock Mass in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament yesterday morning. The Mass was celebrated by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. E. M. Joyce), assisted by the Cathedral Administrator (the Very Rev. T. Liddy). In his sermon, Bishop Joyce traced tlie history of nursing from the earliest centuries until the present day. He reminded his listeners of the influence the church had played in the evolution of the nursing profession. “In this young country we are proud of our medical profession, our nurses, and hospitals,” said Bishop Joyce. “The human body is the house for the immortal soul, hence the dignity of the vocation of those who care for such a creation of God,” he said.
