FORBURY PARK CLUB

QUITE SOON SHOULD RACE WELL AMIABLE FAVOUBED IN BEACH HANDICAP The appearance of eight Southlandtrained trotters will add interest to the Bayfield Handicap, the opening event on the first day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting today. However, they may find some of the Canterbury candidates too experienced on dirt tracks for them. Quite Soon, which has had three wins and two placings in his last five starts, is expected to win, even though he has to concede a start of 36 yards to some likely improvers. Quite Soon is a stablemate of Maori Queen, the pre-post favourite for the Ritchie Memorial Handicap, the main event. Quite Soon has plenty of ability. Most opposition to Quite Soon may come from other Canterbury trotters in Executive, which has shown considerable improvement in the last few months. Executive has been racing very generously in recent. months. Royal Marine broke badly at Timaru last month when having his first start since being purchased by Mr “W. L. Parkinson. The Nelson Derby gelding has. plenty of ability, and if he trots solidly today he should make a bold showing. Gully Rush may be the best of the Southland visitors. The Kdianapolis gelding has had three wins and four placings from eight starts this season, and if he can handle the turns at Forbury Park he should be prominent. Lady Brigade and Blue Admiral are two other speedy trotters, and they should show to advantage. General Lee, a disappointment in his races this season, may be the best of the other Canterbury candidates.

Southland Prospect Amiable, which is trained at Nightcaps by B. Rushton for the Gore studmaster, G. Youngson, is expected to win the Beach Handicap, which has drawn a strong field of improving pacers. Amiable, a son of Dillon Hall and a good performer in Pleasant Guy, has had one win and six placings from 10 starts this season. He has not had much luck in a number of his races. Amiable has always shown a fair measure of ability, and he is certain to show up at Dunedin. Rosy Morn, which showed considerable promise in her races earlier in the season, may be prominent. The Gold Bar mare usually races well when fresh. On her day she has more than average ability, and it will not be surprising if she wins. Queen’s Honour is another with plenty of ability. Off 12 yards she will have bright prospects if near her best. Alkin has raced well at Forbury Park 9P P rev i, ou s visits, and may have a chance. Others likely to show up include Casacando and Warren Grattan. The other fields have all filled well, and the racing should be of a high standard. Most of the acceptors raced at the recent Addington meeting, and form displayed then should be a reliable guide. If Maori Queen produces her best she will be difficult to beat in the Ritchie Memorial Handicap. Others with bright projects in the race include Tactics, Tnxie Milne, Inglewood, and Empire Lady. Sure Charge will probably be favourite fox- the Victory Handicap, the main race for trotters and one of the most open races on the card. The Light Brigade gelding has shown outstanding ability in his most recent, appearances. Most opposition may come from Captain Cuddles, Fair Isle, Globe Son, Swanee River and Vodka. The double will be run on the Ritchie dicap° rial Handicap and the st - Clair HanSelections are:— H a.m.—Bayfield Handicap: Quite Soon, Executive, Royal Marine.
