Disappearing Silkworms A reserve force of 500 silkworms was rushed to London today to replace the first 500, which disappeared last night an hour before they were due on show in an exhibition, “From Cocoon to Coronation.” Both sets came from Lullingstone Castle, Kent, where part of the material for the Queen’s Coronation robe is being made. The first batch was packed in a small cardboard box with mulberry leaves and a hotwater bottle. It was whipped away after it had been carefully carried into a West End exhibition hall from the car of Lady Dyke, owner of the silk farm. Souvenir hunters were first suspected, but the blame was switched later to enthusiastic cleaners, who may have thought the box junk. Rubbish bins around the hall are being searched. If the worms are still in the box they will probably be unharmed. —London, April 8.
