COST OF REPAIRS TO CARS
REPLY TO CRITICISM AT DUNEDIN CONFERENCE (New Zealand Press Association) . AUCKLAND, March 11. Auckland motor body builders have taken exception to statements made by their delegate yesterday at the conference of their association in Dunedin, accusing retail motor traders of “loading” insurance companies. The delegate (Mr J. Griffiths) said at the conference that motor traders were “taking insurance companies for a ride” by loading them with a 10 percent. penalty on motor repairs. Mr R. Fielder, an executive member of the Auckland Motor Body Builders’ Union, said today: “The damaging allegations made by Mr Griffiths concerning unethical practices with insurance companies throughout New Zealand, and in particular in Auckland, by the motor repair firms are his own opinion, and are completely without foundation or backing. His statements are a reflection on the business integrity of the motor body builders. The assessors, who are themselves qualified men in all branches of repair and new work, inspect damage before it is repaired, and a mutual price is reached.”
