ALLIES URGED NOT TO RELAX
VIEW OF PRESIDENT EISENHOWER (Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Mar. 10 President Eisenhower has stated that the Allies cannot relax their defences because of the change in the Soviet regime. The Netherlands Foreign Minister, Mr Joseph Luns, said today that Mr Eisenhower had made this statement during discussions with him on the Soviet situation. Mr Luns said that Mr Eisenhower had agreed that the Western nations must not be taken in one way or
the other by the early attitude of the new Soviet leaders. Mr Eisenhower felt that sustained efforts were necessary by the Western nations. * He and Mr Eisenhower had surveyed the entire world situation during their meeting, with special emphasis on Europe and European defence plans, said Mr Luns. He emphasised to Mr Eisenhower that in spite of huge costs for relief in the recent disastrous floods, the Netherlands Government was determined to meet its full military commitments in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation this year.
