CORONATION COSTS

TOTAL ESTIMATED AT £1,573,000 (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, March 10. Britain is spending more than £1,500,000 on the Queen’s Coronation in June. The Civil Estimates, published today, show that £1,206,000 is required in the financial year opening next month. This is additional to a Supplementary Estimate of £367,000 voted this year. From the total of £1,573,000 has to be deducted receipts from the sale of seats, which to date are £648,000. The Civil Estimates show that £948.150 will be used to prepare Westminster Abbey for the ceremony and to build stands for spectators along the route of the Royal procession. The Government expects to recover an additional £135.000 from the sale of seats in its stands, which will cost £695,000 to construct. It has set aside £125.000 for expenses of the Queen’s Household, including the entertainment of Royal and other guests. A total of £40,000 has been allotted to the Admiralty for the naval review and other expenses, while the Earl Marshal’s office will get £12,000.
