RECONSTRUCTION IN KOREA
Sir, —We heard in the New Zealand Broadcasting Service’s 8.45 talk last evening of the wonderful humanitarian work the United Nations is doing in Korea reconstruction work, and the speaker mentioned the apathy of the Koreans when he picked up a poor child who was lying naked in the gutter. We read reports quite frequently of thousands of tons of bombs dropped, including napalm bombs, and the damage done to bridges and hydroelectric works by the United Nations bombers. Someone wrote —I don’t know how long ago—“ Whom the gods would destroy they first drive mad.’’ I wonder will they destroy the United Nations? I think Professor Butterfield (“Christianity and History”) would undoubtedly.—Yours, etc., MRS A. OCKENDEN. March 9. 1953.
