MR MUNRO’S VIEW ON KOREA

Patience Urged On UJN. Members (N.Z.P.A.—Reuter —Copyright)

NEW YORK, March 8. Mr L. K. Munro, the permanent representative of New Zealand at the United Nations, in an interview of the United Nations-radio programme “On 1 the Record,’’ said that he did not see any possibility of a solution to the Korean problem in the present debate of ' the General Assembly. .The free nations had taken up an attitude founded on the principle of non-forcible repatriation of prisoners, and in listening to speeches from the representatives of the Communist bloc he had not seen the slightest indication that they would meet' the free world in' observance of this principle Mr Munro said, in answer to a

question: “I can see no possibility of a solution. I think it is important to have a debate because it has been of importance for us to restate our view, but I do believe we should not unduly prolong the debate and involve ourselves in a long discussion to give the Communist bloc unlimited opportunities to discuss what, in my belief, are distortions of the truth.’’ He urged the continued patience of the United Nations in Korea. Commenting on this statement, Mr Munro said: “Mr Churchill has drawn, an analogy to the struggle by the Romans against the barbarians which lasted foi’ very many years. J am not suggesting the Korean problem will last that time, but I am convinced that in -our patience we must not be weak,* we must give moral.support to the troops in Korea, ana we must 'give material support which should be coming '‘from not only the nations who have forces there now, but from those who support our attitude and who have not forces there.”
