SHAKESPEAREAN COMPANY
NO MATINEES in DUNEDIN (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 6. The cancellation of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre Company’s matinees during its Dunedin season was not caused solely by poor bookings, the company’s publicity manager ,(Mr John Scarlett) said last night. . “The matinees are principally for children. We found in Christchurch that some of the children who attended were too young to understand ‘Othello.’ Their restlessness disturbed others.” said Mr Scarlett. The decision not to hold the matinees would mean a welcome break for members of the company.
