AMURI SHOW

SUCCESSFUL DAY AT ROTHERHAM

With a brilliant day, record entries in several classes, and a large crowd, the Amuri Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual show was held at Rotherham on Saturday. Altogether 109 horses were entered in the various classes—a record for the association—and sheep numbers were also more than satisfactory. Gate takings, too, were a record. Of the champion Corriedale ram, which was exhibited by Mr H. C. A. Sidey, the judge (Mr M. M. Fleming) said: "He has a wonderful carcase and is full of character. He carries a fine head and has plenty of bone.” The ewe championship was also taken by a sheep from Mr Sidey’s property. The Merinos were quite good-* for a counrty show, said the judge (Mr J. L. Stevenson), but the breed did not look at its best at this time of the year.

“The old Southdown ewes were, as a class, of a very good standard, but the one-shear classes were a bit disappointing,” said the judge of the Southdowns (Mr L. D. Adams). Both the champion halfbred ram (owned by A. J. W. Inkson) and champion halfbred ewe (also owned by Mr Inkson) were outstanding sheep of their breed, said the judge (Mr C. W. Denton). The entries in the classes were quite good and all classes were very even. The pony classes were of a very good standard all through, said Mr C. I. Peter, the judge. “The champion pony (Miss Pamela Wyllie’s Golden Dawn) would hold his own in any metropolitan show. The champion harness pony shown by Mrs A, G. Black, was also a very notable animal, and showed very good action." The brood mare section of the hackney classes was of an excellent standard, said the judge, Mr R. M. D. Johnson. Championship Awards Awards of championship ribbons were made as follows: Sheep.—English Leicester: ram, A. K. McLaughlin;. ewe, A. K. McLaughlin. Southdown: ram, Mrs J. C. Cradock; ewe, J. I. Johns.
