NUNNELEY CASKET MATCH
AUCKLAND LEADING WELLINGTON (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 20. The Auckland women s lawn tennis team won all six rubbers against Wellington, at the Stanley street courts today. If Auckland has one more win tomorrow it will hold the Nunneley Casket for another season. Wellington won only one set. Misses Betty Nelson and Annet Brunt surprised the spectators by taking the New Zealand champion pair, Miss Heather Redwod and Mrs Valerie Gow, to 7-5 in the third set. There was only one other closely-fought match—that in which Miss Nelson took Miss Judy Burke to 6-4 in two sets. Auckland’s superiority was clear in the other four contests. Results (Auckland names first): — Singles.—Miss J. F. Burke beat Miss B. Nelson, 6-4, 6-4; Miss H. Redwood beat Miss B. Meyer, 6-3, 6-1; Mrs V. Gow beat Miss A. Brunt. 6-2, 6-1; Miss P. Nettleton beat Miss D. King, 6-3, 6-0. Doubles.—Misses Burke and Nettleton beat Misses Meyer and King, 6-1, 6-2; Miss Redwood and Mrs Gow beat Misses Nelson and Brunt, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
