SKELTON BROTHERS’ SIX SUCCESSES

COUNTY TYRONE WINS AGAIN

The three Skelton brothers made history on the second day of the Westland Racing Club’s meeting today, when between them they won all six galloping races on the programme. W. D. Skelton, the elder brother, rode four winners, and R. J. and F. H. Skelton one each. Their total successes for the two days were 10 in a possible of 12 races, and in addition they filled minor places 13 times , out of a total of*26 rides. There were only three occasions when they did not each weigh in for first, second, or third money. W. D. Skelton today rode the first four galloping winners on the programme, including the Trial Stakes on Hot Sands, the first-day winner of the event for maidens. County Tyrortfe, which repeated his first day’s success in the principal event, the Anniversary Handicap, and the winners of both legs of the double, Adowa and Airmine. County Tyrone had another clear-cut success in the Anniversary Handicap. He followed the pacemaker. Cloudy Range, to the straight, where he drew away, and though warmly challenged by Escalado, won going away by a length and a half, with a gap of two lengths to Cloudy Range. Iron Trail was next. This was County Tyrone’s third success in nine days. Adowa, placed on the opening day, took the honours in a close finish with Costello and Iron Trail in- the preceding event, the Evans Hack Handicap, the first leg of the double. Adowa led throughout. After a poor showing on the opening day, Costello showed improvement in the easier going to be a good second. v He drifted early, but finished brilliantly in the straight to fail by a narrow margin in a photo finish with the other pair. Noble Jim was next in line, and the others were beaten off. Airmine Wins Again Airmine completed a double In the James Hack Handicap to give the Orari trainer, L. H. Pratt, his third success at the meeting. She won attractively from Claredawn and Great Valley,- with Winning Dancer in fourth place. Saxonia won the Rimu Handicap, the open sprint, from Aegina and Jesse James, with Escalado next to finish after a good tussle in the straight. As on the opening day In one event, the three Skelton brothers rode all place-getters in the concluding event, F. H. Skelton winning on Rebel Flight from Airmine, ridden by W. D. Skelton. R. J. Skelton was on the third placegetter, Kandahar. Rebel Flight won well in a good finish.

The totalisator turnover was £10,908 10s, compared with £16,657 last year. The double dividend for £1 paid by Adowa and Airmine was £l6 9s. Places: £1 9s, £1 9s. £1 Bs. JAPANESE TO VISIT STUD FARMS ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 16. Three Japanese businessmen, Count Shijo, Mr Fujimoto, and Mr' Hiko, arrived at Auckland by flying-boat from Sydney today, laden with gifts for the mavors of cities which they are to visit. The object of their visit is to see New Zealand racehorses, stud farms, and racecourses. They may buy some horses, but they particularly hope to see two of the country’s leading sires, Foxbridge and Ballcch. Their visit is as much a holiday as a business trip. Two of the Japanese are reputed to be millionaires, and all are members *of the Japanese Racehorse Owners’ Association. In Australia they inspected horses and studs. They were accompanied to New Zealand by an Australian, Mr H. W. Whitfield, who has lived in Japan. While in. Auckland, the Japanese will visit Rosehlll stud at Papakura and see Ellerslie racecourse.
