FIVE PERSONS INJURED NEAR CLINTON (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 20. Five persons were injured when two cars collided on the Main South road near Clinton this morning. Those admitted to the Balclutha Public Hospital were:— ' • Mr James Wilson, of Ashley Downs, Clinton, the driver of one of the cars; shock and bruises. _ Mrs E. R. McDonald, of Oamaru, a passenger in Mr Wilson’s car; fractures of the pelvis and rios. Miss C. McDonald, daughter of Mrs McDonald, and also a passenger in Mr Wilson’s car; fracture of a wnst Mr Walker, of Waikaia, driver of the second car; bruises. Mr C Collins, of Wendonside. a passenger in Mr Walker’s car; lacerations to the scalp. , , ± nnn The accident occurred about 9.30 a.m. The condition of the injured persons this afternoon was satisfactory. PEDESTRIAN KILLED KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR (New Zealand Press Association) WHAKATANE, January 20. A man died almost instantly when he was struck by a car in Whakatane last evening. He was John Henry, aged 40, of King street, Whakatane. Mr Henry, who was employed as an accountant in the Whakatane Board Mills, was walking in Commerce street about 8.30 p.m. when he was killed.

PICTON CROSSING COLLISION INJURED PERSONS MAKING .GOOD PROGRESS (New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, January 20. The condition of most of the six persons injured in a level crossing accident at Picton yesterday has improved. Four have undergone major operations in the Wairaii Hospital. Mrs Ivy Marion Young, whose condition last night was critical, has made good progress. • t The name of the 13-year-old girl injured is Catherine Johnstone, a niece of Mr and Mrs J. S. Young not a daughter as was stated in the first report. Her condition is not yet satisfactory. CAR HITS TREE Alfred John Thomas, of 125 Jeffreys road, Bryndwr, a passenger in a car which crashed into a tree in St. James avenue, Papanui, about 5 pm. yesterday, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital. His condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory.
