N.S.W. ELECTION

PREMIER AND DEPUTY UNOPPOSED (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 19. The Premier of New South Wales (Mr J. J. Cahill) and the DeputyPremier (Mr R. J. Heffron) will be

unopposed in the State election on February 14. This announcement, following the closing of nominations today, came as a surprise to political observers, who said it would help the Labour Party’s chances as it would leave these two key men free to fight Labour’s campaign in doubtful seats. The chief secretary (Mr C. I. Kelly) also will be returned unopposed. Four women have been nominated.
