EARTHQUAKE IN PACIFIC

SIBERIAN COAST DAMAGE

(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) TOKYO, Nov. 12. Japanese scientists said today that the earthquake that sent a tidal wave crashing across the Pacific on November 4 must have caused extensive damage and heavy casualties on the Soviet Siberian coast. Seismographs in Tokyo recorded 64 after-shocks during the week ended 9 a.m. yesterday, and experts said that some of them were severe enough to shake people out of their beds. The first upheaval on the floor of the Pacific was believed to have caused heavy damage in Petropavlovsk, the chief city of the Kamchatka Peninsula, but there was no way of checking until an announcement was made from Moscow.

So far the Soviet radio had not mentioned the earthquake.
