FRIENDS OF THE CATHEDRAL

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The progress of the work on the reredos in the Christchurch Cathedral was outlined by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt - Rev - A - K - Warren) at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Christchurch Cathedral Association. Bishop Warren thanked the association for its financial support, which, he said, had enabled the work to continue. The Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan) presided, and spoke of plans for a Christmas tree to be erected in the Cathedral next * month for children to bring gifts to tie on it. Miss Rose Reynolds, the secretary reported that the committee had decided that the association should become a corporate member of the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral, Britain. Officers were elected as follows: president. Bishop Warren; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames G. Gould, Norton Brancis, and F. J. Reynolds, the Very Rev. J A Julius, Canon A. H. Norris, Canon S. COCKTAIL PARTY One of the many social functions arranged during Cup Week in Christchurch was a cocktail party given by the Young Contingent of the Victoria League last evening in the Overseas League rooms. The president (Miss Nancy Northcroft) welcomed more than 100 guests, including many persons from country districts The specially invited guests were Mrs J Mowbray Tripp, president of the Victoria League, and representatives of other organisations.
