LEMON DISPUTE

COMMENT BY DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 28. „ “There is no actual fact in dispute, said Mr K. B. Longmore ActingDirector of Marketing, today, commenting on an advertisement recently published by the New Zealand Fruit and Produce Merchants and Auctioneers’ Federation under the heading “Lemon Dispute.” Mr Longmore said that, as stated oy the secretary of the federation, the rate of commission for handling lemons had been fixed by the Price Tribunal at Bs. per cent. The federation, considering the amount unsatisfactory, had served notice on the Marketing Department, as agent for the Lemon Marketing Committee, that members of the federation would not handle lemons after October 3. “At the request of the committee and with the authority of the Minister of Marketing, the department has appointed new agents, who are now functioning satisfactorily throughout the country. “The public can be assured that adequate distribution of lemons will be maintained,” said Mr Longmore.
