LAND FOR STATE HOUSING
DEVELOPMENT AT HORNBY
Development of part of the land at Hornby that has been planned as a State housing area has been started by the Housing Construction Division of the Ministry of Works. Roading is being constructed on the Wallis Block of 22 acres at the corner of Buchanan and Gilberthorpe roads, and tenders have been called for the laying of drains and stormwater pipes and the construction of subsidiary works. More than 450 houses will be built on the total block of 125 acres which is bounded by Gilberthorpe, Buchanan, Hei Hei. and Waterloo roads and has been zoned for residential purposes by the metropolitan town-planning committee. About two-thirds of the land “ as been acquired by purchase, the Wallis Block being included in this portion. Notice of intention to take approximately 34i acres under the Public Works Act. 1928, was given in the Gazette last month.
