U.S. BOMBER LOST
Reported Encounter Off Hokkaido (Rec. 11.20 p.m.) TOKYO, October 8. Far East Aar Force headquarters reported today that a Superfortress bomber disappeared off eastern Hokkaido yesterday after reportedly encountering an aircraft from the direction of the Soviet-held Kurile Islands. The bomber was carrying a crew of eight. The announcement did not say that the other aircraft was Russian. The Air Force said that the last word from the Superfortress was S.O.S. in English.
