A competition to find listeners’ tastes in recorded music, resulted in Mrs J. Atkinson compering her winning entry at a recital by the Christchurch Recorded Music Society last night. Her featured work was Bruch's violin concerto played by Campoli, and the New Symphony Orchestra, the programme including Tatiana’s Letter Scene, sung by Joan Hammond, the Adagio for Strings of Samuel Barber, played by the Boyd Neel Orchestra, Mozart’s Oboe Concerto, played by Evelyn Rothwell, and the Halle Orchestra and Tchaikowsky’s Capriccio Italien. played by the 8.8. C. Symphony Orchestra.

U.S. Jet Seaplane.—A contract to build the nation’s first all-jet seaplane was awarded bv the United States Navy today to the Glenn Martin Company, of Baltimore, on the basis of its winning design in a Navy-sponsored competition. The plane will be radically different in concept and design from past models. It will be multiengined.—Washington, October 6.
