Locomotive Reconversion.—A special combined meeting of the Taihape and Ohakune branches of the New Zealand Locomotive Engine-drivers’, Firemen and Cleaners’ Association held in Taihape passed a resolution expressing concern at the proposal of the Railways Department to reconvert oilburning locomotives back to coal burners. The proposal, it was claimed, was retrograde, and if carried out could only result in further resignations. It was claimed also that it would increase the hours of duty.— (P.A.)
