RECENT YARDINGS MAINTAINED

VALUES GENERALLY FIRM

Yardings at Addington yesterday were similar in numbers to the previous Week, and all round there were very few alterations in values. The fat sheep market was somewhat erratic. Fat hoggets showed no change at all. Store hoggets were in good demaud, with ewes showing a slight decline in values. Shorn Wether hogget* were eagerly sought. Ewes ana lambs brought slightly higher prices. In the fat cattle section heavy steers showed a slight decline towards the end Of the sale, but prime light-weights and cows appreciated to some extent. STORE.SHEEP The store sheep yarding showed a considerable rise on last week, totalling 2840 against 2157. The entry comprised 1047 hoggets, 573 ewes With lambs, and 420 wethers. The quality of the hogget entry was hardly equal to recent sale*, and wholly sheep were not as much sought as those out of the wool. Prices for ewe hoggets showed a drop of about 2s a head, but shorn wether hoggets were firm to a Shade dearer, and woolly wethers were on a parity with late rates. Best ewe hoggets in the wool sold from 84s to 98s, top price being paid for a line of 68 Romney cross. Other good lots of ewe hoggets brought from 64n to 78s. Exira good wether hoggets Bold to 565, with lower-conditioned. £ ro « 40s , 6d to 4 ® s ® d « and inferior 32s 6d to 35s 6d. The 073 ewes with lambs at foot were a moderately good lot and values on the whole rose by about 2s a head. Top price was 46« 6d for a line of 49 ewes and 62 lambs from A. McPherson (Sedgemere). Rood lots Sold from 34s fid to 455, with inferior down to 24s 6d. The majority of the wethers offered were older sheep and were in good conoitton. Prices were fully firm a pen of E 4 SIX and eight-tooths from Woodbank Station realising 475. The quality of the sows was a little better than has been the ease of late. Although the quality of the hellers was not of the best, competition was a little keener than at last sale. Best aeeofia, third and fourth-ealvers made £23 to £3O, with odd sales at £32, and others made from £l7 to £2l. Best heifers ranged to £3O, with odd sales up to £34, and others made from £lB to £25. STORE CATTLE > The large yarding of store cattle included several pens of useful, well-bred sorts, and thefe was also a fair proportion of lbw-conditioned cattle. A large gallery followed the sale and, with a sustained demand, prices again firmed on last week. Three and four-year cattle were in strongest demand. The sate opened with les fully on a par with last week’s rates, but over the last two races values eased by about 3s to 5s a head. The yarding of choppers was the largest for some time, blit nevertheless the sale was ail excellent one, with valties fully on a par with late rates tn the bacon section the yarding was also much larger, but again a good sate resulted. Values were:— Eight porkers, £5 9,6 d to £6 4s fid. Medium, £6 9s fid to £7 4,6 d Heavy, £7 6s fid to £7 19s fid. Choppers, £8 38 fid to £l3 18, fid. Light baconers, £8 4s fid to £B 16s fid. STORE PIGS The yarding at store pigs ws, a little larger than last week, but consisted mainly of weaneM. and quality throughout was vary goad.
