1627-ACRE PARK PLANNED
APPROVAL GIVEN BY CABINET AREA BETWEEN RAUMATI AND PAEKAKARIKI (New Zealand Pres* Association) WELLINGTON, October 7. Royal approval of the naming of an are* of 1827 acres, lying between Paekakariki and’ Raumatl, is to be sought. If it is granted “Queen Elizabeth Park” may become one of the leading health, holiday, and recreational areas for thousands of people living in Wellington City and province, and up to Palmerston North. The Cabinet has approved plana which had been placed before the Minister of Lands Mr E. B. Corbett) for the development of the area as a public domain for recreational, cultural, and aesthetic purposes, subject to the Crown’s right to use for farming parts not under development. . ... There is to be provision for holiday camps and picnic grounds, a motor camp, golf links, and equestrian sports grounds. Two golf links may be laid out, one for first-class golfers, and the other for the less experienced. For some months a committee and six sub-committees have been working on a plan for the development of the area. The survey and planning committee understands that the construction of a motorway through the area will begin in about 18 months.
