LOOPER GRUB IN STATE FOREST

SPRAYING DELAYED BY WIND EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS Aerial spraying over the Eyrewell State forest had been held up recently because of wind, but as soon as there was a calm day the work would be completed, said the Conservator of Forests (Mr L. H. Bailey) yesterday. The droplets of D.D.T. spray used were so fine that if the wind velocity rose above five miles an hour they drifted about three miles, and for this reason spraying from aircraft must be done in calm weather, he explained. Some spraying had been done in the mornings from 5 a.m. until the wind came up, and after an application of spray it had been difficult to find any live looper, caterpillars. “There is every indication that we are cleaning out the pest from the Eyrewell forest," Mr Bailey said.
