The first modified piston from the Maraetai gate-lifting gear is expected to leave the Auckland Naval Dockyard today on its way back to the dam site on the Waikato river. The second piston may be ready to be sent to Maraetai by the end of this, week. It will be three or four weeks before all five are finished. When the pistons reach Maraetai there is still nearly a fortnight’s work before each cylinder assembly is ready for use. All five cylinders will probably be required before power can be gener*ate’d from the station, but the initial raising of the lake would need only two or perhaps three. Because of the urgency of getting ahead with the tunnel plugs, the engineers may decide to raise the lake when two or three cylinders are installed, and fit the others .so that power can be generated as they arrive.—(P.A.)
