FETE AT BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

£6OO RAISED FOR CAFETERIA About £6OO was raised at a fete held at the Christchurch Boys’ High School on Saturday in aid of the fund to build a cafeteria at the school. It is estimated that the cost of the cafeteria will be about £3OOO, and the Government has offered a £ for £ subsidy on money raised. With about £ 1500 needed, the fund, after Saturday’s fete, now stands at about £ll3O. The fete was arranged by the Parent-Teacher Association, and the good results achieved were jnade possible by careful organisation. There were many attractive stalls and amusements, which attracted a large crowd. The fete was opened by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr J. T. Watts), a former pupil of the school. There was no parent-teacher organisation when he was at school, Mr Watts, said. The school had made great, strides, and now had an association and a capable board of managers. The Parent-Teacher Association did a great’ deal of valuable work for the school, providing a link between the teachers,’ the boys, and the boys’ homes. He could not, he said, commend too much the work of parent-teacher associations. Others in the official party were the headmaster (Mr J. Leggat), the chairman of the board of managers (Mrs L. J. Broomfield), Mr C. H. Perkins, a member of the board of managers, and Mrs Perkins, Mr P. J. Halligan, the secretary of the board, and Mrs Halligan. Mrs G. L. Hooper, the secretary of the Parent-Teacher Association, and Mrs Hooper, Mr R. A. Falloon, the treasurer, and Mrs Falloon, Mr C. A. Palmer, the president, and Mr C. M. Sheppard, a member of the association in charge of the financial side of the fete.
