‘Technical Advantage Over MiG’s”

(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 8. The United States Air Secretary (Mr Thomas Finletter) aaid to-day that a secret new gadget Oh the Sabre jet fighter, soon to be tried in Korea, would give the United States a very great technical advantage over the Soviet MiG jets, “With this new gadget more MiG’s will go down and more Sabres are going to stay up,” he said. “As soon as we can be sure that the Communists have learned of this new capability we Will tell you exactly what this new gadget is, said Mr Fihletter. The Senate Preparedness Subcommittee charged recently that too many gadgets on Air Force planes were slowing down production and causing loss of effectiveness. Mt Finletter said that fighter and bombeb production in July was five times higher thah in July, 1950, and wold be seven times greater by the end of the year. He thought the increase in bomber p-oduction, including light bombers. Was “a little astonishing.”
