Egypt has been under martial law since January 26, although all restrictions were abolished immediately after the military coup which drove King Farouk from the throne. During the martial law period successive Prime Ministers also assumed the appointment of Military Governor-General as has General Naguib. A Government spokesman said that the former Prime Minister (Mr Aly Maher), from whom General Naguib took over the Government on SunSy , . Another change revealed to-day was the appointment of Mr Mohammed u S j d j- a director of Misr Airlines, to head the Board of Directors of the important Misr Bank and affiliated companies, in place of Mr Elias Andrawos, formerly economic adviser to King Farouk and now under arrest. General Naguib intends to keep his pledge to hold a general election in February and return to normal parliamentary government, according to authoritative sources. The new Cabinet is understood to be confident that the political patties will speedily and thoroughly purge themselves of corrupt elements as did the armed forces shortly after the military coup.
