“Unless immediate power savings are made, shut-downs of indeterminate periods obviously affecting producion, employment, and the pay envelope will be inevitable,” said a circular issued by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association to its members yesterday. '

(5) Switch off motors at all times when machines are not working. •6) Reduce the use Of lifts io the minimum. (7) Check all electric light bulbs, and where possible replace with minimum candlepower bulbs. (8) Reduce water heater usage for process work and cafeterias to the absolute minimum. (9) Advise staffs of the seriousness of the situation to obtain their cooperation at home and at work.
