MANUFACTURERS WARNED
“Unless immediate power savings are made, shut-downs of indeterminate periods obviously affecting producion, employment, and the pay envelope will be inevitable,” said a circular issued by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association to its members yesterday. '
The association made a number of suggestions to members to assist in the effort to save power. They were:— (1) Appoint an efficient member of the staff to watch for power wastage, to supervise all compulsory controls, and to check meter readings each day. (2) All stand-by plants to be used to full capacity. (3) Do not run lines of shafting unnecessarily. i4> Withdraw all heaters, other than those required for processing. (5) Switch off motors at all times when machines are not working. •6) Reduce the use Of lifts io the minimum. (7) Check all electric light bulbs, and where possible replace with minimum candlepower bulbs. (8) Reduce water heater usage for process work and cafeterias to the absolute minimum. (9) Advise staffs of the seriousness of the situation to obtain their cooperation at home and at work.
