CENTENARIAN SINGS ON STAGE
AUCKLAND LIGHT OPERA PERFORMANCE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 9. Not “the oldest chorus girl .in London,” but the oldest chorus boy in the world sang on the stage of His Majesty's Theatre last evening. At 101 Mr David Stewart was fit enough to join the amateur operatic cast of “Bitter Sweet” and help to sing the final chorus. “I’ll See You Again.” It was the most popular number in a Show which thrilled old people of Auckland who attended a complimentary performance given for them by the Light Opera Club. But for Mr Stewart, who retains a lusty voice and a colourful taste in ties, his item was not the highlight of the evening. That had come earlier when he was taken backstage before the show and introduced to the leading lady and some of the chorus girls.
