ADDINGTON MARKET

RECORD VALUES FOR FAT CATTLE FAT SHEEP CONTINUE TO SELL AT HIGH LEVEL Fat sheep values were well maintained at Addington yesterday, in spite °f an increase in the offerings. Fat cattle at £6l 2s 6d reached the high- • est level on record. Store hoggets were in very strong demand, prices showing a considerable rise. Ewes with lambs at foot were slightly easier. Store cattle rates were fully equal to the highest figures of the season. STORE SHEEP Th yarding of store sheep was 3538, against 1176 last sale, the increase being

principally in hoggets which totalled 2313, with 588 ewes and 637 wethers. A very large attendance of farmers followed the sale throughout. There was lively competition for anything offered in the hogget section, and prices showed an increase of fully 3s all round. Some very good ewe hoggets were penned and these found ready buyers from 93s to 106 s for the best, with secondary lines from 59s 6d to 735, and shorn lots from 36s to 49s 6d. The best wether hoggets realised from 47s 6d to 555, good from 40s to 465, and others from 31s to 365. Only one pen of ewes in lamb was forward, and this sold for 565, the line being two-tooths of medium quality. The rest of the offering comprised ewes with lambs at foot which were 2s easier than late sales. One line of 35 ewes with 58 lambs at foot made 40s, all counted, and the same price was paid for a pen of 50 ewes with 77 lambs. Other lots made from 27s 6d to 345.

There was an entry of 637 wethers, against 298 last week. The best of the woolly wethers sold at 50s 6d to 565, with others from 39s 6d to 475. Shorn wethers sold up to 39s 6d. SPRING LAMBS About 30 spring lambs were forward, most of them being of very fine quality. The number proved rather too many for butchers' needs at this time of the year. The best realised from 67s Id to 72s Id, with others from 54s Id to 61s Id. National Mortgage and Agency Company sold: on account of McClure Brothers (Killinchy), 9 at 67s Id to 72s Id. H. Top price was 104 s Id for the tops of a line of 61 from D. McLeod (Methven), wnich averaged 95s 4d. Values were:— Best hoggets, 92s Id to 104 s Id. Good, 72s Id to 91s Id.
