VISIT OF SIMS PROFESSOR

DR. EDWARD DODDS ARRIVES IN N.Z. AUTHORITY ON CANCER RESEARCH (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 9. Dr. Edward Dodds, Courtauld professor of biochemistry for the University of London and director of the Courtauld Institute of Biochemistry at Middlesex Hospital since 1925, arrived by Solent to-day to give New Zealand doctors up-to-date information on recent trends in cancer research. Professor Dodds has discovered most of the known anti-cancer drugs. Professor Dodds, who is accompanied by his wife, has come under the terms of the Sir Arthur Sims Commonwealth Travelling Professorship for 1952. The professorship was endowed by Sir Arthur Sims in 1946 to enable a Commonwealth professor who is a prominent physician, surgeon or scientific worker to travel each year to any part of the Commonwealth to assist in the advancement of medical science, either by lecturing, teaching or engaging in research. Soon after his arrival Professor Dodds was on his way to the Animal Research Station at Wallaceville. He is keenly interested in the veterinary side of medicine, and plans later to visit the Department of Agriculture’s farm at Ruakura, Hamilton. He will visit Christchurch, Dunedin (where he jßrill spend 10 days), and Auckland.
