DALRAY IN GOOD CONDITION

SMOOTH VOYAGE TO SYDNEY (N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) SYDNEY. September 9. The New Zealand stayer, Dalray, and his stable-mates. Reversal and Trench Fray, arrived in Sydney by the Monowai this morning, in first-class condition after a smooth crossing. The trainer. C. C. McCarthy, who accompanied the horses, said he believed Dalray to be better than ever, though the horse had not raced since it finished an unlucky second to Opulent in the Sydney Cup at Randwick on April 14. Sydney racing men say that Dalray appears to have wintered well, and has built up considerably. McCarthy has not yet decided whether Dalray will start in next Saturday’s weight-for-age Chelmsford Stakes ‘at Randwick, where he would meet most of the other fancied Metropolitan contenders. These include Delta, Aristocrat, and Hydrogen. McCarthy has the choice of four races before The Metropolitan, the others being the Theo Marks Quality Handicap at Rosehil] on September 20, the Hill Stakes at Rosehtll on September 27? and the Colin Stephen Stakes at Randwick on October 4.

McCarthy later said Dalray would be a certain starter in the Hill Stakes and Colin Stephen Stakes and, it he needed another run, he would contest the Theo Marks Handicap.

His statement that K. Nuttall would ride Dalray in all his races is of particular interest to Sydney racing men who contend that Nuttall was at fault in his handling of the horse In the Sydney Cup.
