CHRISTCHURCH STAFF APPOINTMENTS

Miss Dorothy K. Bowsher was appointed children’s librarian at the Canterbury Public Library, at a meeting of the Christchurch City Council last evening. Miss Bowsher. who is from Huddersfield. Yorkshire, has specialised in children’s library services in England and in the united States. /

From November. 1948, to July, 1950, she gained further experience at the tion of Portland, where the library has a high reputation for its work for children. Miss Bowsher is ah Associate of the English Library Association, and has almost completed the examinations necessary to qualify for the fellowship of the association. At present she is the assistant editor of the "Junior Bookshelf," an English library Sublication devoted to children's ooks.

Other women who have recently received appointments under the City Council’s scheme for the development of the Canterbury Library are Miss Eileen Webster and Miss Amy Jamieson. •

Miss Webster, who is subject specialist ,in charge of the lending department was until last year librarian of the Greymouth Public Library. She has a B.A. degree, a teacher's C certificate, and the diploma of the New Zealand Library School. Miss Amy Jamieson graduated M.A. from Canterbury University College. She also holds the diploma of the New Zealand Library School. She is subject specialist in charge of general reference works at the library.
